Ophthalmology Services

Emergency Service Department

BESH provides 24/7 emergency services for all eye, ear, nose and throat related issues. However if the emergency is life-threatening we instruct our patients to head to a general hospital.

General Ophthalmology Department

Despite treating very specific and complex eye conditions, BESH also welcomes thousands of patients per month who are just looking to get a simple eye check-up. Doctors are available at the hospital 24/7 to consult with on any general ophthalmology condition. Please check our page on common eye conditions to read-up more on typical eye conditions.

Vitreoretinal Department

Diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration are common causes of decreased vision in the Middle East. BESH provides a fully equipped surgical facility for the treatment of complex diabetic diseases, retinal detachments and macular degenerations. For non-surgical retinal cases, BESH is also one of the few institutions in the Middle East that own a PASCAL laser which can be used for non-surgical treatment of retinal cases.

Cornea Department

This department provides innovative treatments for a wide variety of corneal and ocular surface disorders. We offer the latest techniques available for natural corneal transplantation (penetrating/lamellar), and offer the artificial corneal graft services – Boston Keratoprosthesis (K-Pro surgery was performed for the first time in the region at the BESH facility). BESH is also unique in its ability to provide treatment for Keratoconus, a prevalent condition in the Middle East. This service includes techniques such as intracorneal rings, collagen crosslinking, phakic IOLs and corneal transplants for the most complicated cases.

Glaucoma Department

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide and the number one cause of irreversible blindness. Our world-class glaucoma specialists diagnose and manage different glaucoma sub-types and provide a broad range of clinical and surgical treatments to preserve our patients’ vision and help maintain/improve their quality of life.

Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Department

The development of eyesight during childhood is a complex and critical process. Undiagnosed eye problems may prove detrimental in the child’s education and social activities. Screening during the early years of schooling is important and treatment may be as simple as a pair of glasses or as demanding as a complex surgery for a challenging strabismus case. Regardless of the case, our pediatric ophthalmologists promote the most comfortable and inviting environment for our younger patients.

Oculoplastics Department

The oculoplastics department is divided into three different sub-divisions: a) BESH offers both surgical and non-surgical treatments for eyelids and surrounding tissues as a solution to improve signs of aging for both men and women. b) Lacrimal surgery addresses problems related to blocked or infected tear channels and lacrimal ducts. c) Orbital surgery addresses problems related to the bony eye socket and any pathology of their contents such as nerves, muscles, arteries, veins, fat and lacrimal glands. This service also includes patients who require an orbital implant and prosthetic eye.

Refractive (Laser) Surgery Suite

The refractive surgery department provides all the latest techniques for the correction of myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism and presbyopia using state-of-the-art technology. This is a popular service among our patients as it allows them to finally get rid of eye-glasses and contact lenses.
