ABOUT
THE HOSPITAL
History
The Beirut Eye & ENT Specialist Hospital was founded in 2010 by Professor Dr. George Cherfan whose life-long aspiration was to establish a specialized hospital in Beirut to accommodate the large demand for eye care.
Prior to the hospital opening its doors late 2010, the site was home to a small general hospital (Seid Hospital). Despite being inactive for a number of years, Seid Hospital provided a strong infrastructure foundation on which to develop BESH. The project included adding 4 additional floors to the existing 3-floor building (Block “A”) and then annexing a “Block B”. In 2015, BESH annexed its “Block C” to house all admin services. The current Block C is one of the oldest buildings in the area. Facing the historic national museum, it features in many old, pre-civil war pictures.
BESH’s strategic location on the “Mathaf” (Museum) Square ensures easy access from all parts of the capital, and has helped turn the hospital into a local landmark.
